LP - USA & EUROPE - 2009 - SUB POP - 0 98787-0034-1 3 - SEALED NIRVANA'S DEBUT ALBUM REMASTERED FROM THE ORIIGNAL TAPES Bleach è il primo album del gruppo rock statunitense Nirvana, pubblicato negli USA il 15 giugno, e in Europa il 12 agosto del 1989, dalla Sub Pop Records.In seguito alla pubblicazione del singolo d'esordio Love Buzz, nel novembre 1988, i Nirvana incominciarono a preparare, nell'arco di due o tre settimane, la registrazione di un album in studio, nonostante la Sub Pop avesse chiesto loro soltanto un EP. La maggior parte delle sessioni di registrazione si svolsero ai "Reciprocal Recording Studios" di Seattle, con il produttore locale Jack Endino. La band iniziò a registrare il 24 dicembre del 1988, in una sessione lunga 5 ore. Il gruppo registrò di nuovo tra il 29 e il 31 dicembre e di nuovo ancora il 14 e il 24 gennaio. Il produttore Endino programmò per la band 30 ore in sala di registrazione. Tre delle canzoni dell'album, Floyd the Barber, Paper Cuts e Downer, erano già state precedentemente registrate, sempre nel 1988, ma con Dale Crover alla batteria. Malgrado i tentativi di registrare le stesse canzoni con il nuovo batterista Chad Channing, il gruppo alla fine decise di inserire nell'album versioni remixate delle registrazioni con Crover.Big Long Now venne scartata dalla versione finale perché, secondo quanto riportato da Endino, Cobain riteneva che ci fosse già abbastanza roba lenta e pesante in Bleach, quindi non voleva far pubblicare il brano. L'album era ormai preparato e sequenziato ma il capo della Sub Pop Bruce Pavitt diede l'ordine di risequenziarlo completamente. La registrazione fu ulteriormente ritardata per parecchi mesi a causa della mancanza di fondi della casa discografica.Endino programmò di far registrare il gruppo per trenta ore per 606,17$. Il denaro venne fornito da Jason Everman, un chitarrista che era rimasto colpito dal demo con Dale Crover. Everman per breve tempo si unì al gruppo come secondo chitarrista e compare nei crediti della copertina dell'album sebbene non abbia preso parte alle sue registrazioni.
